FurnishAid Furniture
Furnish Aid is no longer active. Read about the good work we did during the Flood of 2016. Volunteers of America is always ready to step up and meet the needs of our community!
How do you rebuild your life after the devastation of a flood and heavy rains like the ones that hit Baton Rouge in August 2016? With help from others. Volunteers of America is proud of work with partners such as FurnishAid, a furniture distribution assistance project created by several manufacturers based in High Point, NC. Over the course of two months in the aftermath of the Louisiana flood, Volunteers of America Greater Baton Rouge's Acadiana regional office took in eight full truck deliveries from showroom floors and local furniture stores throughout the U.S., containing nearly $2 million worth of new beds, dressers, nightstands, sofas, mirrors and more. Partnering once again, Volunteers of America worked with SOFA (Service, Outreach, Furniture, Acadiana) that managed the application process (more than 3,000 submitted) for the new furniture. SOFA operates a year-round furniture assistance project as an outreach ministry through the Episcopal Church of the Ascension. Trustees from the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center helped move the furniture from the warehouse into the vehicles of families in need.
