Therapeutic Foster Care

Become a Therapeutic Foster Parent!

Therapeutic Foster Care provides family homes and intensive case management services for children facing challenges that may include behavioral and emotional disorders, educational exceptionalities, medical disabilities and multiple unsuccessful family placements. Volunteers of America also recruits families to become Therapeutic Foster Care families. The certification process normally takes three to four months which includes orientation, 36 hours of training, a home study and background screenings. In addition to recruiting and training, staff also provide foster families with ongoing home visits, emotional support, emergency on-call services, linkage to community resources, respite care coordination and advocacy on the child's behalf in the courtroom. The goal is to maintain a stable family placement for each child. Call (225) 928-9398 to find out more about becoming a TFC family!
